Wireless Router SoftwareThe Electronic Frontier Foundation, the leading anti-surveillance organization and digital rights advocate, launched at the HOPE X (Hackers on Planet Earth) Conference an experimental hacker alpha release of a wireless router software specifically designed to support secure, shareable Open Wireless Networks.

The new firmware only works on Netgear’s WNDR3800. When in guest mode, the firmware should allow SMB and home users to enable an open network, provide state-of-the-art network queueing, improve Wi-Fi router security.

The EFF offers to technical users and enthusiastic developers the opportunity to support the project. The owners of WNDR3800 can get the developer preview image and flash the device. Developers can hack on the code base, finding indstructions on building code at Github.
