Facebook announced on 9th July a new control panel for the Facebook News Feed.

Basically, Facebook wants to personalize the stream, showing what matters most to the users. With the new control panel, you can choose the people and pages that you see at the top of your newsfeed. You can obviously change your preferences whenever you want.

Facebook will show first people whom you tend to interact with, and content from the pages that you tend to like and comment on.

THE NEW RULES FOR PAGE OWNERS AND GROUP MANAGERS

Curate your content

Don’t publish a post because you have to. If you spam your users with unuseful posts, they will unfollow you. Publish something relevant to your audience and you will get new followers

Remember that “fan” doesn’t mean “follower”

When a user likes your page, he automatically becomes a follower. But “fan” doesn’t mean “follower”, as a fan can stop following your page or your group whenever he wants.

Furthermore, Facebook will show to the user a complete list of the liked pages, with the button: Follow / Unfollow / See First. The user could be a fan that doesn’t see what you write (Fan + Unfollow), a fan that follows you, a super-fan of your page (Fan + See First).

Facebook doesn’t allow you to see how many of your fans are also following you.

Leverage best practices to build your audience

The “Discover new pages” tool will suggest to the user a list of Facebook Pages that he might be interested to like and follow. The list is based on Pages that the user liked in the past, and the stories he most cared about and commented.

BEST PRACTICE 1

Monitor your competitors and their posts. If a post is commented or shared by many users, write something valuable and original about the same topic on your FB page.

BEST PRACTICE 2

Publish engaging and shareable content like videos and photos.

BEST PRACTICE 3

If a post is successful (high reach and high engagement), periodically publish a valuable and original post about the same topic.

Newsfeed Control is now available for iOS and will be rolling out on Android and desktop over the coming weeks.
